Why am I Different From the Rest?

I have been putting so much focus into growing my personal training business lately, I have been completely absent from the blog front!

I wanted to talk a little more about being a personal trainer and what sets me apart from other trainers.  I obtained my Personal Training Certification through CanFit Pro in August of 2016 and have been spending the last year growing my clientele.  My style of training is nothing crazy or fancy, it relies on consistency and determination from my clients

So if my style of training is nothing fancy, what makes me different from other trainers or coaches?

1.  I use what works, in other words, no B.S unnecessary workouts, equipment, etc.  I believe in keeping fitness simplistic.  When you are just a beginner, you don't need anything more than a few sets of dumbbells and maybe a bench or a mat.  There is no need for expensive machines that take up space.  When you are looking to get started, the less investment of money to equipment, the easier it will be to stick to.  When you are a novice to advanced athlete, you will have to invest in more things like either a gym membership or some barbells, plates and maybe a rack or two.  But to get started, keep it simple!

2.  I have been there!  I have been stuck in the yo-yo loop.  I know what its like to fall off the bandwagon and have to restart.  I know what its like to train around injuries.  I have had surgery that took all the strength out of my legs and needed to start over.  I understand that sticking to a super strict diet all the time is unrealistic when you have birthdays, family gatherings and special occasions!  I understand that work and life gets in the way, but I also know that if you're determined enough, you will make it work; just like I did!  I know that it is possible because I am just like you!

3.  When I make a program for someone, I am using my own ideas.  Whether it is for online or personal training, we talk, I take in to account your goals, your experience, abilities and I make you a customized program.  I am not selling someone else's shakes, programs or videos, these are my own.  The reason why I do this is leads me to my next point.

4.  I am an a Certified Personal Training Specialist through Canfit Pro.  I have to obtain a certain amount of continuing education hours, take my CPR and First Aid yearly and I need have insurance to stay certified and work as a personal trainer.  Personal training is sadly a very unregulated industry where almost anyone can call themselves a personal trainer or "coach", but I strive to be the best I could be, to me that meant to obtain my certifiaction.

5.  I follow and endorse a no fad, no fluff nutrition.  I will say right off the bat, I am not a nutritionist.  I will not tell you what you can and cannot eat.  I will not tell you to eat organic, put coconut oil in everything, butter in your coffee, nor to cut out dairy, meat, carbs or fats.  I will tell you that it is better to make small, consistent changes for life and think of your nutrition as a long term plan for your health.  It is best to do what makes sense, eat more vegetables, cut down on the crap and eat sufficient protein for your body's needs.  Better yet, if you are confused about it, speak to a certified nutritionist.

6.  I want people to succeed!  Hence why when I make programs, I will usually make them for 8 weeks or more.  I want people to get into a long term program so they pick up the habits and stick to them.  For example, for my Fit Fall Challenge, I made it an 8-week program so that people will adjust to a new lifestyle and my goal is for them to carry it on either on their own, or I can make more programs for them.  I do not want you to do a 3-week program just to have you fall off the bandwagon, just to gain more weight and then start all over again.  That will not help you in the long term.

So in conclusion, why am I different from the rest?  In short, I keep it simple.  I work with you and your goals and I have been there!  I understand what it is like to buy food on a budget, not have the motivation, working full time, and setbacks like injuries and surgeries.  I want people to realize that if I can do this, so can you and I want to help you!

What is the Deal With Protein Powder?

If you look the majority of fitness or body building Facebook pages, Instagram feeds or websites, you'll see a bunch of confusing jargin! Take this supplement, take this fat burner, drink this fit tea, do this detox.  Don't forget Vitamin, A, E, D, B1, B12, Glutamine, Creatine, etc.  Its insane the amount of pills and things that the fitness industry brings about. I am not one takes a bunch of supplements, fat burners or a bunch of vitamins and minerals.  There are several health and scientific evidence as to why I don't do that; but in short I just don't have the need to.  I am not a serious body building competitor, and it seems like a lot of effort to boot! I take really only two "supplements" with my workouts; BCAA's during my workouts and protein powder after.  I will talk about protein powder for today and touch base on BCAA's later. I started reading into protein powders a little more lately because I knew I wanted valid information to wri
